About Rebecca

Rebecca McClellan has served the 6th Congressional District on the State Board of Education since 2017, and has been a champion for equity and academic growth and achievement for all students. Her service has included a term as the Board Liaison to the Colorado Special Education Advisory Committee, as well as State Board Legislative Liaison. Rebecca has represented the State Board at the National Association of State Boards of Education. Board Member McClellan was selected as a 2017 Gates Fellow to the Harvard Kennedy School of Government program for Senior Leaders in State and Local Government.

Prior to serving on the board Rebecca was the Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Centennial, where she served as City Council Liaison to the Cherry Creek School District. Rebecca worked with State Legislators and local PTCO leaders in CCSD and Littleton Public Schools to develop and pass measures to improve school funding. Rebecca worked with Bicycle Colorado to bring Safe Routes to Schools to Centennial, cutting carbon emissions, increasing safety, and helping to address childhood obesity by encouraging walking and cycling to and from neighborhood schools. Rebecca advocated for public schools on the Executive Board, her school district's Legislative Network, and is a graduate of Leadership Cherry Creek. Rebecca's school volunteer experience has spanned more than a decade, and has included classroom work, fundraising, and support for programs including music and the arts. Rebecca and Jim have two children, who have attended public schools from kindergarten through high school, and who are now undergraduate and postgraduate students at public universities in Colorado.
